Sri Sanjay Kumar Joshi has been training in
Classical Dance for over 25 years. He has
had the privilege to train with illustrious
Gurus and has performed widely across the
country and abroad.
Gurus: He has been trained in Kathak from
Late Sri A.Y.Giri and Late Sri R.Gopal Rao.
He then had the honour of training under
Padmashree Kumudini Lakhia in Nrityagram,
Bangalore. His brief but intense association
with Dr. Puru Dadheech of Indore further
enhanced his understanding of the Kathak
style. He had privilege of doing a workshop
under Late Smt. Rohini Bhate, Pune.
He has also been trained in Bharathnatyam
from Late Smt. Samrajyam Lakshmi Ramana Rao
and in Kuchipudi from Vedantam Ramalinga
Today, he has the fortune of being
associated with one of the most prominent
names in the sphere of Kuchipudi
Padmabhushan Smt. Swapna Sundari.
Completely fascinated by the technique and
nuances of the ‘Vilasini Natyam’ which is
being resurrected and popularized by Smt.
Swapna Sundari, Sanjay has been trained in
this dance form and along with his
illustrious Guru hopes to popularize it and
propagate it across the country.
Apart from a ‘live telecast’ of his solo
performance from Doordarshan Kendra,
Hyderabad in December 1989 he also played
the role of Krishna in a Serial called
“Geeta Govindam” which was telecasted over
Channel-8 of Doordarshan in 13 episodes.
Sanjay has toured extensively to America,
Canada and Dubai under the auspicious of
Indian Council for Cultural Relations and
others along with his Guru Smt.
He has devoted a greater part of his life in
learning and appreciating the nuances of the
various classical dance forms which form the
rich cultural heritage of our country.
His priority is Kathak and seriously
believes that it is a complete dance form
which can convey both traditional and
innovative themes. He will continue to
strive for excellence in the field of dance
and carve a niche wholly for himself in this
massive structure of Indian art.
